“Saturday Night Live” has announced comedian Sasheer Zamata as it’s newest addition to the cast for the show’s return this month!
The recent hire comes after SNL recently received some criticism for lacking diversity with it’s female actresses. Zamata will make her debut on the show’s first episode of 2014 on January 18th with host and musical guest Drake.
In the past, male comedian Kenan Thompson has portrayed the show’s black female roles, but has since declined dressing drag. After an extensive casting call, Zamata fills the opening as the first female black cast member since Maya Rudolph’s departure five years ago.
Some of Sasheer’s specialty impersonations include Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj and Michelle Obama.
